The Day of the Eclipse
February 28, 1998
On this date a miraculous thing was about to occur... the last solar eclipse
until the year 2000 that would be visible here in the Carolinas.
Miss this?? No way!

As we make our adventure into an unknown world...
at least for us anyway, the photographing of an eclipse. We did attempt
to research all we could before "the day" but came to the realization of
regardless show much we read it still was going to be hit and miss.
Truth be known, the end result was more misses than hits.
We loaded up telescopes, solar filters, cameras and other can't do
without essentials --- Pepsis, Mt. Dews and of course, munchies and met
at what we fondly refer to as Startown Field. And our adventure began.
D.U.S.T.Y. (you'll see her down below) came along, too for our viewing pleasure
of just watching the eclipse in between shots. Here in North Carolina,
there was only of the to be a partial --- covering about one
quarter sun, but the event was truly awesome to behold through
D.U.S.T.Y. We set our cameras to infinity and shot at every speed
range available on more than numerous rolls of film, switching
cameras back and forth, one clicking to their heart's
content as the other stepped up to D.U.S.T.Y. to view what at the moment
(and maybe still is...) the most extraordinary sight imaginable.

On the left, D.U.S.T.Y. (Da Udder Scope To Ya) -- he
named her, I didn't..lol) but what I did do was paint her... to Lynn's
specifications, of course... simply, cow spots. D.U.S.T.Y. makes her way
to star parties, along with her bell, stool, pail and yep, some hay and always
seems to be the topic of conversation no matter where she goes.
